BIOGRAPHY
GABRIEl ALLAN TOLLIVER
Gabriel is an award winning writer/producer/director across media platforms. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and Long Island University's TV Writing and Producing Program. He has a BFA in Film/TV Production and a Masters of Professional Studies in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Gabriel is also a US Army Veteran who served as a video journalist (46R) from 2007-2011 which included deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (09-10). While deployed, Gabriel created news, intelligence, and morale programming for fellow soldiers, families, NATO and congressional leadership.
Gabriel’s range of interests and expertise have led to a diverse portfolio. He co-authored the definitive pop culture book on trendy, ostentatious jewelry called BLING: THE HIP-HOP JEWELRY BOOK by Bloomsbury Press and he is the author of several other publications: Embrace the Suck: 366 Days of Courage, Strength, Inspiration, Wisdom and Hope, Objects of Deployment, The Dao of Whooping Ass, and Haiku Sex: Before, During and After.
Gabriel wrote and co-produced; MONDO BLACK an artful 8 part web series for PBS affiliate, The National Black Programming Consortium. MONDO BLACK is a series of interviews and travelogue vignettes providing glimpses into the unique and inspiring realms that Black American Life occupies above, below and somewhere in between the cultural radar. He also co-wrote and directed, "FLEECING LED ZEPPELIN", a short crime caper film based on true events involving one of Rock's greatest unsolved heists. The film has been added to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame's media archives and screened at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Harlem International Film Festival.

Gabriel wrote and directed the BRIC TV, Brooklyn web series pilot; DOLLA VAN - a story about two Trinidadian siblings who start their transport service in Brooklyn. The short has screened at the 2023 American Black Film Festival and the 2023 Caribbean Lens Festival in Los Angeles, CA.
Gabriel has also worked as an archivist and researcher.
In 2017-18, He worked on an Untitled Tupac Shakur Documentary attached to 2014 Oscar nominee Steve McQueen (Widows, 12 Years A Slave). He directed behind the scenes and wrote show copy for the YO! MTV RAPS 30th Anniversary Experience at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY in June 2018. Gabriel was a consulting producer on the 2022 Paramount + reboot of YO!

Gabriel was a freelance producer for Good Morning America's co-host Robin Roberts’ digital series; # ThriverThursday. Seasons 1-4. Gabriel received a 2019 TELLY AWARD for his producing work on Season one. www.thriverthursday.com.

Gabriel’s latest ventures continue his exploration of music, culture and human interest stories. He currently curates a documentary YouTube series based on his trove of archival video footage called; SIDELINES OF HISTORY.
When asked about his inspirations, Gabriel counts Ed Bradley(CBS/60Minutes), Edward Murrow, Ellis Haizlip (SOUL!/PBS), Hip-Hop Culture, Maya Deren, Frederick Wiseman, Zora Neal Hurston, and VICE as influencers on his journalistic & documentary endeavors. His cinematic influences are just as numerous.
As a self- described “creative mothership,” Gabriel’s true gift and talents lie in being a master storyteller across all media platforms. He is from Shaker Heights, OH and considers Cleveland his home.
